Week 1, Term 1, 2025/2026

What a start! Our Primary campuses have been alive with energy, laughter in the corridors, joyful reunions, and children excitedly swapping holiday stories. It’s been a joy to hear about your family adventures and to welcome our new families into the BSKL community.

At BSKL, we know our children, and we empower them to thrive. This isn’t just a strapline; it’s the heartbeat of what we do. Throughout the week, teachers have been getting to know

what makes your child tick, who they gravitate towards on the playground, the books and topics that spark their curiosity, and the little prompts that help them feel happy and confident. Together with the children, teachers have been co-creating class expectations and modelling and practicing our key routines: walking calmly around school, lining up and behaving considerately in the canteen and theatre, and playing safely at break. The aim is simple: to be ready, respectful and safe, every day.

A real highlight has been the new Lower Hill canteen. It’s working beautifully: smoother service, calmer queues, and more time for children to enjoy their meals and chat with friends. The atmosphere at lunch has felt relaxed and positive, and it’s been wonderful to see children lingering for conversations rather than rushing through.

Playtimes have been just as encouraging. With the additional space for Year 5 and Year 6 on the Astro, with more room for football and no longer having to dodge the flying footballs as you walk across from one campus to the next.

It’s also been lovely to see the children looking smart and confident in their uniforms. The new PE kit looks fantastic as do the new house T-shirts which the staff were showcasing today. One small uniform reminder that really helps us keep a consistent standard: on uniform days, children should wear all-black school shoes; on PE days, trainers should be all black or all white.

As we look ahead to another busy year, we’ll keep strengthening those learning habits, deepening routines that help children feel secure, and noticing the small details that make a big difference for each child. If there’s anything you’d like us to know, interests, strengths, worries, please reach out to your class teacher. Your insight and partnership are invaluable as we continue to make this a happy, purposeful term full of growth, kindness, and plenty of proud moments.

Have a fantastic weekend, see you all next week.
