Class of 2025 Julianna - Senior Highlight - Class of 2025 Julianna - Senior Highlight

Julianna, a member of the Class of 2025, has been accepted to study Medicine (MBBS) at Queen Mary University of London, Malta. Driven by a passion for biomedical sciences, genetics, and the origins of disease, she prepared through rigorous studies (IB Higher Level Biology and Chemistry), pre-college courses, observing medical procedures, and volunteer work with Operation Smile, focusing on early disease detection and access to medical treatment.

Driven by a profound curiosity about the origins of disease and the development of advanced treatments, Julianna, a member of the Class of 2025, has built a remarkable academic and extracurricular foundation in biomedical sciences, leading her towards the study of medicine.

Developing a passion for biomedical sciences and genetics

Studying IB Higher Level Biology and Chemistry, along with her coursework experience in these subjects, has prepared Julianna for advanced studies in biochemistry, genetics, and pathology, with a particular focus on early disease detection, prenatal diagnostics, and surgery.

Julianna’s passion for this field of study was ignited by taking several pre-college courses and observing medical procedures in various departments at local and international leading hospitals. Furthermore, Julianna’s continuous volunteer experience with Operation Smile provided invaluable firsthand insight into the transformative impact of early disease detection and fundamental access to medical treatment in underserved communities.

An exciting chapter in Malta begins

Julianna’s dedication has culminated in an exciting new chapter: an offer to study medicine at Queen Mary University of London, Malta and earning an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) degree within 5 years. The IBDP provided a robust foundation in biomedical sciences, enabling Julianna to be well-prepared for the rigours of a future in medicine.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Julianna was involved with the Senior Studies Leadership Team, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. She has also dedicated 14 years to dance and piano, a clear indicator of her passion, discipline, and perseverance.

The benefit of a holistic approach to education

Julianna joined St Andrews in Year 2, and her story is a powerful reminder of how St Andrews' personalised learning pathways and holistic approach to education help students realise their true potential. We encourage our students to pursue their passions both in and out of the classroom, providing them with the academic rigour of programmes like the IBDP while also supporting their broader interests. We’re proud to share 10% of the Class of 2025 IBDP graduates received offers at medical schools around the world. By nurturing well-rounded individuals and connecting their learning to real-world impact, we empower them to follow their ambitions and shape their own remarkable journeys.
