Frequently asked questions

  • What does BSB Sanlitun's admissions process involve?
The BSB Sanlitun admissions process is straightforward and efficient. It's also designed around your family’s needs and schedule.

Your journey to our thriving Early Years and Primary School starts by contacting our admissions team, who will guide you through the enrolment process. They can also arrange a tour of our world-class facilities and introduce you to our brilliant staff and teachers.

After speaking to our team and taking a tour, you'll need to complete an online application form. As part of our entry requirements, you’ll also need to submit some supporting documents. Your child will then have the opportunity to take part in taster classes before you make your final decision.

You can find a full step-by-step guide to the process on our admissions page.
  • What do your tuition fees include?
The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun’s tuition fees are structured to be as inclusive as possible. They not only cover every aspect of your child’s academic teaching and learning, but also include an array of exciting activities beyond the classroom, exclusive collaborations through Nord Anglia Education, and lots of leadership and community experiences, like our Student Council.

Our tuition fees also cover books, learning materials, school lunches, and local and residential trips within China.
  • How will you help my child settle into school?
Our school is renowned for its warm and welcoming attitude to new families. In fact, 98% of our families say their first contact with our school was overwhelmingly helpful and positive!

Ahead of your child's first day, we'll provide you with lots of information about the school and their class. We can also put you in touch with one of our families and arrange for your child to have a ‘buddy’. This is a great way to help them settle in and feel connected.
  • What curricula do you teach at BSB Sanlitun?

BSB Sanlitun students follow the world renowned English National Curriculum. This is divided into the following stages:

Our curriculum delivers the highest standard of teaching and learning. It's also packed with exciting experiences and opportunities that nurture our students' holistic growth.

  • What qualifications do your teachers have?
We know that children learn best when they're happy, engaged, and inspired. This is why we only recruit the world's best educators, who bring a wealth of subject and curriculum experience to our classrooms.

We provide outstanding opportunities for our teachers to learn and grow, too, through Nord Anglia University and exclusive training with MIT and Juilliard. This will ensure your child learns from teachers at the cutting-edge of Early Years and Primary best practice.

We also have many marvellous teaching assistants (TAs), all of whom have degrees.
  • Do you offer extra-curricular activities?
Yes, we do! All our Primary students take part in After-School Activities (ASAs) for one hour after lessons finish on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our ASAs change termly, and include a wide variety of music, sports and creative activities. There is no extra charge for these.
  • What wellbeing support and guidance do you offer students?
We believe that teaching children the life skills they need to be safe and happy is essential to their development.

For this reason, we introduce Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education (PSHE) from the very start. In the Early Years, PSHE begins with Circle Time. In Primary, we teach PSHE as a standalone subject. It's also the theme of many school assemblies.

PSHE covers a diverse array of topics, including social and emotional wellbeing, study skills, and developing a positive learning mindset.
  • How does the school communicate with parents?

We work hard to maintain excellent communication with our families.

Our teachers send a daily email to parents, and Friday’s email looks ahead to the next week’s learning. We use the Seesaw platform to send messages and teachers will post pictures showing you what’s happening in class. You'll also receive a weekly email, 'Notes from the Principal’s Study', containing school news, updates, and events.

We provide termly reports, hold parent meetings throughout the year, and have a Parent Consultation Day in the Spring Term. Our teachers are always just an email or phone call away should you need to talk to them.

When it comes to social media, you can follow BSB Sanlitun on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and WeChat.

  • How can parents get involved in the school community?

Our international parent community comprises more than 60 nationalities. This makes BSB Sanlitun a diverse and welcoming place to be.

We arrange lots of social and educational activities throughout the year, through the school's Parents' Association. These bring our families together and strengthen the home-school partnership.

  • English is not my family’s first language. How will BSB Sanlitun support my child?
We have an excellent English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme, which caters for children who arrive at our school with little or no English. Through our programme’s effectiveness - and by learning in an English-speaking environment - your child will quickly pick up the language.
  • Do you provide a school lunch?
Yes, we offer tasty and nutritious lunches, which are freshly prepared onsite by our catering team, Chartwells, and are included in our tuition fees.

Children do, however, need to bring a water bottle to school. Primary students, meanwhile, must bring a healthy snack to eat mid-morning. Snacks are provided for Early Years students.
  • Do you have a nut or allergy policy?
BSB Sanlitun is a nut-free school. Please let us know if your child has any form of allergy.
