 Dear Families

A very warm welcome back and it is great to have the children back in school.

I would like to start by thanking everyone for the speed and flexibility they showed with the quick switch to virtual learning yesterday. We only had a couple of hours notice and I am very grateful to our staff and you as families for the way we came together as a BVIS community to quickly deal with the unexpected circumstances. Thank you all!

We have had a fantastic start to the year and in this newsletter I would like to focus on our amazing A Level and IGCSE results.

For both A Level and IGCSE the school has achieved the best ever scores since the school opened. I am extremely proud of all the students and grateful to our amazing teachers who have supported the students to get such outstanding results.

Student Highlights & Success Stories (18/08 - 22/08/25) - Weekly Updates 22-08-25

Nearly 50% of all grades were at A*-A grade and over 70% were A*-B grade this is outstanding. We also had a group of Year 12 students sitting their A Level maths in one year. Every student achieved an A* or A an incredible outcome. They will now go on to study Further maths.

Student Highlights & Success Stories (18/08 - 22/08/25) - Weekly Updates 22-08-25

Again, the best ever scores at IGCSE with 45% of the grades at A*-A and 68% at A*-B. Congratulations to all the students and teachers for another outstanding set of results.

In 2014 I was involved with a small working party at BVIS HCMC to push CIE to introducing an IGCSE in first language Vietnamese. This would be a perfect way to measure our Vietnamese subject curriculum and teaching against international standards. Vietnamese staff in HCMC and Hanoi continued to lobby and support CIE in this much needed qualification. I am pleased to say that the very first cohort of students at BVIS Hanoi sat the IGCSE first language Vietnamese and the results are really quite stunning!

Student Highlights & Success Stories (18/08 - 22/08/25) - Weekly Updates 22-08-25

So, we can now truly and honestly say that our Vietnamese subject curriculum, teaching and methods are some of the best in the world.

Overall, I am delighted and proud to see such success that will mean our students will have endless choice to the top universities and colleges across the world. Well done to everyone.

I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.

Emails with log in details have been sent to parents. If you have any trouble accessing this, please contact the school and we will be happy to help.
Finally, we have lots of parent events planned for the year. These calendars show what is coming up in August and September.

Year 7 STEAM Transition

Our new Year 7 students spent their first three days at BVIS immersed in an exciting STEAM project, designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. The programme began with two engaging workshops: an escape room activity to help students get to know their new campus and a paper prototyping session where they practiced design skills used by real product developers.

As part of this MIT transition challenge, students also had the opportunity to practice using Microsoft Teams which is the main platform we use at school. They learnt how to share files, gather information, and collaborate effectively in their groups. These digital skills will support them throughout their time in Secondary School.

Working in teams, students then explored the theme of climate change, investigating how science and innovation can provide solutions to one of the world’s most pressing challenges. Over the following days, they brainstormed, researched, designed, and built their own prototypes before proudly presenting their ideas to parents, staff and students in their final showcase.

It was so lovely to see them engage in such an important issue, whilst also making new friendships and gaining new skills that we hope they continue to build throughout their Secondary School life at BVIS.

Well done, Year 7!

Enquiry Learning and Metacognition in 9I Mathematics

9I completed their first Enquiry Learning activity in Mathematics this week, all about Prime numbers. Students posed questions, tested ideas and discovered patterns by themselves and as a team. This active exploration builds deep understanding, not just procedures. Metacognition—thinking about thinking—helps learners plan, monitor, and revise approaches, leading to resilience when tasks get hard. These activities help students to work as a team to develop a solution, whilst learning from their mistakes. The teacher guides and questions each group to direct their learning and develop their problem solving. A great start to the year 9I.
