It has been a joyful start, full of smiles, curiosity, and a sense of excitement as Early Years children settle into their new routines.
Year 1 children have explored their learning spaces, became familiar with school rules, joined in fun games, and began building lovely new friendships. The children have worked kindly together and enjoyed taking the first steps on their Primary learning journey.
Year 2 had a wonderful Entry Point this week on the topic of Holidays, filled with lots of fun activities. The children especially enjoyed the pool games, marshmallow BBQ, drink bar, summer disco, and face painting.
Year 3 enjoyed a creative and personal activity to help them get to know their new teachers and classmates better. Using a photograph of themselves, the students completed the other half with their own artistic self-portraits, creating a wonderful mix of photography and drawing.
Year 4 students took part in a treasure hunt. They searched around the school for clues.
Year 5 kicked off their new unit with a creative Entry Point ‘Climate Control’. The children enjoyed making animal art from natural materials such as seeds, leaves, sticks, and flowers.
Year 6 enjoyed their IPC Entry Point, creating ocean sculptures from foil and clay. Celebrating ocean diversity, the project highlighted the importance of protecting marine life and discouraging pollution.
We are delighted to welcome back our students to BVIS after the summer break. It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we have had a great deal to celebrate! This year marks record breaking results for both GCSE and A level students. I would like to share a heartfelt congratulations to all students who received results, we are extremely proud of your achievements.
To aid our communication with parents, we will be using the online parent portal this year to make this a ‘one stop shop’ for parents to access school information. Emails with log in details have been sent to parents. If you have any trouble accessing this, please contact the school and we will be happy to help.
Finally, we have lots of parent events planned for the year. These calendars show what is coming up in August and September.

Our new Year 7 students spent their first three days at BVIS immersed in an exciting STEAM project, designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. The programme began with two engaging workshops: an escape room activity to help students get to know their new campus and a paper prototyping session where they practiced design skills used by real product developers.
As part of this MIT transition challenge, students also had the opportunity to practice using Microsoft Teams which is the main platform we use at school. They learnt how to share files, gather information, and collaborate effectively in their groups. These digital skills will support them throughout their time in Secondary School.
Working in teams, students then explored the theme of climate change, investigating how science and innovation can provide solutions to one of the world’s most pressing challenges. Over the following days, they brainstormed, researched, designed, and built their own prototypes before proudly presenting their ideas to parents, staff and students in their final showcase.
It was so lovely to see them engage in such an important issue, whilst also making new friendships and gaining new skills that we hope they continue to build throughout their Secondary School life at BVIS.
Well done, Year 7!
9I completed their first Enquiry Learning activity in Mathematics this week, all about Prime numbers. Students posed questions, tested ideas and discovered patterns by themselves and as a team. This active exploration builds deep understanding, not just procedures. Metacognition—thinking about thinking—helps learners plan, monitor, and revise approaches, leading to resilience when tasks get hard. These activities help students to work as a team to develop a solution, whilst learning from their mistakes. The teacher guides and questions each group to direct their learning and develop their problem solving. A great start to the year 9I.
Performing Arts at BVIS continues to go from strength to strength. Sign-ups for this year's musical, The Addams Family, have been met with an extremely positive response this year. We have had bumper numbers of students sign up to be involved.
Those who have signed-up to audition will be added to a teams group where they will receive information about upcoming auditions and rehearsal materials once the cast has been confirmed.
Being part of Nord Anglia Education means our students can access an exciting world of resources and opportunities via Global Campus.
Here is a link to the Global campus Newsletter for term 1 and we would ask that you encourage your children to take advantage of the challenges and competitions.
